About Sebastian Zimmermann

I was born in Germany and moved to New York City in 1990 where I initially started working as a psychiatrist. In 2001, one of my photographs won first prize (500 rolls of film) in the Fuji Love Contest. I used up the rolls of film photographing people while commuting to work on the subway. I also began portraying psychoanalysts in their consultation rooms. I started studying at the International Center of Photography and privately with Arlene Collins, a mentee of Lisette Model. In 2014, I published Fifty Shrinks which was featured in the New York Times, translated and published in Germany (2019), France (2012) and Turkey (2024).
