Michele Molinari photographs to organize memories according to his own aesthetic vision — because, as he sees it, the past deserves to be beautiful. He does what he loves, and it has never felt like a job. Every project is lived as an adventure, every place a new chapter, and the confidence that tomorrow will be better than today has always been reason enough to keep going. He is a photographer, writer, and visual artist born in Mantua, Italy, where he currently lives. He has a background in civil engineering and biology. He has spent much of his life inhabiting places rather than traveling through them — Milan in the 90s, New York from 1997 to 2005, Buenos Aires from 2005 to 2012 — and it is this quality of sustained, unhurried attention that defines his photographic practice. He is drawn to the ordinary details that only reveal themselves over time: the light on an unfamiliar street, the geometry of a city seen from above, the unique quality of an unremarkable afternoon sky. His work finds its natural home in the photobook. Over the past decade he has developed a body of self-published titles — each one a complete visual essay rather than a collection of images. Some titles explore Buenos Aires (Buenos Aires, 2019; CABA, 2020; That Sky Book, 2021), another the experience of flight (window seat, plz, 2023), and most recently the quiet rhythms of a Tuscan coastal forest (where I go, 2025).
