작가 노트

These images were not planned. I stumbled into them. Each one pulling a word, a breath, or a silence out of me before the camera even came up. Iceland has a way of doing that. It doesn't perform for you; it simply exists, indifferent and overwhelming, and you either meet it on its terms or you miss it entirely.
Settings is about those moments of collision; storm and stillness, between ancient land and fleeting light, between the vastness of a volcanic landscape and the smallness of standing inside it. The title is a quiet double meaning: the settings of a camera, yes, but also the settings of the world. The stage in which we has human gets to enjoy the backdrop, the place where something is about to happen, or just did.

Every frame here began with a feeling before it became a photograph.

The Calm After

Ancient lava fields stretch toward volcanoes on the horizon, pioneer mosses clinging to dark basaltic soil in defiant flecks of green and gold. All this is beneath a fractured sky where a single breach of diffused silver light glances through, suspending the frame between geological deep time and one fleeting, luminous moment.

Into The Shadows

A lone flat-topped mountain rises from a vast, desolate plain, caught in one last breath of light as a brooding storm rolls in to swallow it whole. The dark foreground stretching endlessly toward it, as if the land itself is slowly surrendering to the shadows.

The Dragon

Moss-draped hills rise like the scaled spine of some ancient sleeping creature, their deep green flanks scarred with streaks of rust and shadow, while storm clouds coil low overhead and two tiny human figures on the ridgeline reveal just how utterly small we are against the slow, breathing weight of the land.

Peace Bound

A jagged volcanic peak pierces the storm clouds above, its summit half-swallowed by mist, while glacial ice spills down the flanks of its neighbor in cold, silent rivers. The rolling dark earth of the foreground curving gently beneath it all, as if bowing to something ancient and utterly unmovable.

Damn!

Some places stop the words in your throat and replace them with just one. The kind of word that escapes before you can think, when light drops into a valley like it was placed there, turning rust and emerald hills to fire while the dark sky presses in around it, as if the world made something too beautiful to stay quiet about.
