Born in Long Beach, California (1970), grew up in Tijuana, Mexico, Yvonne Venegas has been working with the photographic medium since 1994. She studied the certificate program at the International Center of Photography
and obtained her MFA from University of California San Diego with the support of the San Diego Fellowship (2006-08 UCSD).
In 2002 she received first prize in the X Bienal de Fotografia Mexicana, and Mexican fund for Culture and Arts, Young Creator’s Grant (2003-04), and an honorary mention in the Silver Eye Center for Photography Award (PA).

In 2005 she received the StART up award given by the Collectors board of de Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego (MCASD) as well as the San Diego Artist Prize given by the San Diego Visual Arts Network. In 2010 she received the Magnum Expression award for her work Maria Elvia de Hank, given by the international photo agency Magnum. She was also a recipient of the prestiged Sistema Nacional de Creadores grant (Mexico 2010-2013). In 2012 Museo de Arte Carrillo Gil in Mexico City, produced her solo exhibit and accompanying catalog titled Nunca sera mas Joven que este dia (You will never be younger than this day) which revised 15 years of her photographic production, focusing on 6 series of work linked by their relationship to portraiture, curated by Ruth Estevez (currently director of Red Cat, Los Angeles) and Alfonso Morales.
