About Erwan Illian

Black and White amateur street photographer in the 70's while exploring Paris, The American South, New York City. Switched to color soon after arriving in NY. resulting in a series at CBGB. Due to the reaction of the students in my class after seeing those pictures and refusing to see more, I soon abandoned photography all together for 3 reasons: not knowing where to go to promote the work, the surprise appearance of anxiety attacks in the subway (among other places) where I had just started another series, and all my equipment being stolen soon after. In other words my world was collapsing, I had to change course. Later, I moved to California and needing to remain creative, switched to woodworking as I was also interested in design and building stuff. Now, many years later, with others encouragement, I am taking on the duty of the caretaker for that work and exploring numerous avenues to do so, something I was incapable to do then. The circle shall be closed (hopefully).
