My name is Joe Hill and I am a photographer and producer from Colorado, and a recent graduate of Carnegie Mellon University where I created my own major called Image Production and Representational Studies. For my program, I wanted to understand the way that media representation and misrepresentation complicate one's understanding of others as well as of themselves. To confront misrepresentation, I tested my American understanding of two complicated regions, the Middle East and South America. I spent a semester in Doha, Qatar and another in Valparaíso, Chile. Since graduating, I have worked as the Executive Director of a media production company called Round Room Image, and most recently produced a short film for Al Jazeera English in Tamil Nadu, India.
