About Matteo Montaldo

I'm Matteo Montaldo, a freelance photographer with over a decade of experience, encompassing various genres from photojournalism to portraiture, including commercial and studio productions. In the editorial realm, my work has been featured in both Italian and international magazines. I have delved into diverse topics such as news-related issues (La Repubblica, El Pais, RSI), political affairs (Il Manifesto, L'Espresso, and Il Venerdì), and religious matters (La Croix and Famiglia Cristiana). Additionally, I have undertaken numerous assignments for corporate, news and events agencies.

One of the issues I have often covered is that of migration, recognizing its human urgency and its reflection on geopolitical tensions. I have conducted photographic reports at critical points along these migratory routes, including documenting the occupation of Ex Moi in Turin for Internazionale in 2014 and covering the Balkan Route, Brenner Pass, and the Calais Jungle for La Stampa (2016-2017). Building on this interest, I have recently focused my research and documentary work directly on the Arab world. This culminated in a photo reportage with journalist Letizia Tortello on Gender Discrimination in Morocco titled Alle Radici del Patriarcato, published by La Stampa in 2023. Last summer, I embarked on a trip to Lebanon to deepen my understanding of the historical-political context.
