About Petr Toman

Petr Toman is a documentary photographer and photojournalist. His work focuses on social documentary projects, which involve a long lasting approach, understanding and keen interest.

He covers traumatic and post-traumatic psychological problems in war veterans or people confronted with extreme violence or political change. For several years he has been examining the psychological impact the Chernobyl nuclear power plant disaster had on the lives of people from Northern Ukraine.

For a long period of time he has now been cooperating with the legend of photojournalism, Antonín Kratochvíl. In 2014 he was shortlisted as one of the VII Mentor program candidates.

An award-winning photographer. He has received awards in the Czech Press Photo, IPA Award, The Best of Photojournalism, Social Documentary. His political prisoner portrait won an award at POYi 2012.

Currently, he is enrolled in studies at the Institute of Creative Photography with the Silesian University in Opava, Czech Republic.
