The Wheels & Waves festival now in its fifth year has become a mecca for lovers of custom motorbikes, surfing and skateboarding. With passion for the ocean and freedom of motorbike riding this event brings like-minded people from all over the world to the four day event. Sharing knowledge, appreciation and the simple pleasures that these passions bring.
The event last year started in London and riders rode from London across the English Channel and over to France and south to Biarritz where the event is held. It is this sense of nomadic adventure that enticed me.
With a shared passion for travel, surfing and motorbikes I too would head to Biarritz. Capturing the ethos, spirit and unique characters that flock to the event each year.
I’ve always been a big believer in the saying “It’s about the journey not the destination.” This could not have rang more true on this trip.
Driving from London to Biarritz with a friend in his custom campervan and custom bike in the back we spent one and a half days traveling to Biarritz, a journey that should have taken a mere 12 hours.
Starting with a blown turbo in the van on a highway an hour out of Paris. Not one but two punched tires, a dodgy rental car, torrential rain, accommodation communication brake down all lead to us taking longer than expected to arrive at the event.
After missing the first day and a half in which the surfing section of the event was held I managed to get what I was looking for.
Like I said, it’s about the journey not the destination.
