Nowadays, it is becoming more and more persistent trend in returning to the lifestyle and values of our grandparents. Contemporary generation is searching for elements of Slovak folk culture and transmits it to common life. Even though the culture of a nation is closely linked to each individual, the way of life is not enrooted directly in the mind. It is a sort of play on something, that a few decades ago was a natural part of everyday life. In many cases, it is the absurdity, in a certain measure the pose, created by a change of mind, defense against consumerism and globalized way of life in contemporary society.
Series Each Country - Its Customs is based on contemporary society and past history in Slovakia. Images are created in the way of our photography grandparents who was working with big format cameras and black and white photography. Elements of contemporary life are included in the stories which our grandparents lived and they combine present and past. Past is here represented by typical simple folklore clothes. In this series I create my vision of "future past".
Final prints are analogue and they are made by hand in darkroom from 4x5 inch negatives. They are framed in wooden frames sized 55x70 cm and in final installation combined with colour backstage images in 9x13 cm.
