Sometimes I have the feeling of living in a calm that lulls the life, in which all the days look like the same that add up to months and years. Everything seems to be perfectly adjusted, all the people and objects are placed properly in a everyday environment, which is perpetually moving in a circular way.
The time looks like flowing quietly, the land traps me with a well-known melody while the sea makes me dream.
A knock on the wall brings me back to childhood. I put my ear on the surface that acclaims me. Two individuals in silence that are in their own islands are looking for a familiar voice to receive solace.
I would like to tell them that I haven't abandoned them. I have had to leave because apathy was increasingly present. I got tired of waiting.
The island is a photographic project composed of snapshots in which people of an island are photographed. These images create conversations between characters and images found and represented in an everyday space/place. The photographic series does not only describe the appearance of a place, but the place itself becomes a space full of connotations and metaphoric meanings.
The island reflects on incommunication/ isolation, departure, separations... through the interaction of people, objects and nature; offering us a singular look of an account which starts on a surface emerging from the Mediterranean.
