This selection of images is an excerpt from a larger 24 image photo story illustrating a Bulgarian village's vibrant preservation of its culture in the face of depopulation. Bulgaria has been severely impacted by out-migration since the collapse of Communism and over the course of the next year I will be traveling throughout the country, documenting the ramifications it has had on communities and their traditions. I will focus on farming and food culture, key aspects of Bulgarian ethnic identity to better understand how traditions evolve and adapt. Ultimately this project will contribute towards my PhD in Anthropology and a photo driven cookbook that tells the stories of cooks through their dishes.
