I believed I could see atoms until an unreasonable age, even after being told that I couldn’t. I have always had a hard time accepting the laws of the universe in any practical sense, and my artwork reflects this basic character trait. My work has strong ties to the metaphysical and the poetic, and it stems from personal narratives that are veiled by my background and interest in theatre, literature, and mythology. Some of the themes that arise in my work include: memory, the body as a vehicle for guilt, pleasure, pain, and transformation, as well as the power of myth and magic as a means to interpreting narratives. The idea of ritual is also integral to the subject matter of the work, mostly relating to the psychology associated with ritual and its power over people’s perceived transformations. I am fascinated by common human experiences exaggerated to the level of myth. The submitted works fit in with these general ideas, but show a new approach for me. The resulting images are more subtle, and observed moments of these experiences.
