I find it impossible not to be awestruck by the extraordinary volcanic and glacial forces that have shaped the earth’s surface over millennia and continue to alter our present geographies. Geothermal areas and glacial streams are byproducts of these transformative powers, and exploring them allows me to consider these forces at a more human scale, both spatially and temporally. In Terra Nova I survey and interpret these environments, manipulating their specific light, form, texture, and color into a world of my own making. I flatten space and disguise both scale and perspective to create moments of stillness within these dynamic terrains. I present vignettes that reimagine these otherworldly locations as we move beyond our current geological moment.
