In undertaking the series Odyssey – Oceans I wanted to create not so much a photographic object as a vehicle to enable viewers to embrace their own passage. Using different places and times the images transcend geographic and temporal conditions – turbulence and tranquillity – to focus on eternity; encouraging prolonged attention and supporting contemplation on the ways in which humanity makes sense of itself.
The black and white motif provides a semi-abstracted view of oceanic “realities”. Viewers are encouraged to develop their own interpretations. The works focus aesthetically on tonalities, shapes, and graduations of light. They do not strive to define or explain the realm. Rather they seek to uncover it gradually through an opportunity for observation and perception.
