Submission Marja Viitahuhta

These are samples of my work combining hand-made collage, digital manipulation of imagery and photography (ie with camera, scanning and printing). This submission includes 5 works born in different stages of my artistic career, most of them portraits of unknown, unrecognizable or missing persons, often handled with collage tehnique. One of them, "Please", however is not a digitally manipulated image but a documentary photograph from a park in Beijing, where the "natural" though built environment of the park, the note for passers-by and the representation of nature in a plastic form to cover the "unpleasant" view behind it had a similar aesthetic to that of my other works and carried sybolical meaning to me.
