This work was generated with a reflected Rembrandt key-light and a fill light (white umbrella) underneath, and an 85mm lens set to 1.8 at 1/125th second handheld, accompanied by a stool and a white wall in a relatively small studio space. I spoke with Bornnie (the model) casually and we collaborated to find interesting poses. Upon reviewing the material, 'Restraint' was printed on 17 x 22 inch premium metallic glossy paper, and I knew I had the potential to turn this into a project. For my thesis I have been provided with an alcove space (3 walls) and would be intrigued to hear how similar portraits might best be received in their display. I'm considering doing several more portraits and having 10 or 12 or so hanging at eye level in 17 x 22, essentially surrounding the viewer with different equally confrontational yet vulnerable masculine subjects. This is still a broad theme and aesthetic so I'm very open to feedback as far as where it could be narrowed down and made more interesting, as well as any critique on the lighting/composition/typical technical things. Thanks for your time!
