In this photograph I’m bringing together two things I’m most concerned about: the love and care of my child and my fascination for the patterns found in nature’s textures and forms. By covering the image of my son with a delicate veil, formed of dried stems of rapeseed, I want to express some aspects of his adolescence years that strike me because of their resemblance with the natural world; delicateness, vulnerability, transience and growth. I see time passing and I think of his childhood, how he has been struggling and coping with fear, loneliness and depression. Maybe the veil represents not so much a kind of motherly protection, but symbolizes traces and scars of childhood years.
