When past and present blend totally by chance I wish I could attribute this image, blending two portraits, taken in different decades, to my creativity and pre-planning, but it was created entirely by chance. After photographing Vaynoto Vera in her kitchen, I have asked if she could bring an object from her past as a nomadic herder in the Siberian tundra. Along with a few other items, she brought an old photograph. It was a portrait of her, taken when she was a young girl. I took another picture of her, holding this photograph. It was only when I returned home and looked at the two images, that I realized that although decades had passed, they were almost identical: the composition, the gaze, the angle, and even the floral scarf. It did not require any sophisticated editing. I just placed one image on top of the other, and suddenly, the past and present blended.
