So often we who use photography as a true 'fine art' medium blanch at the comment that an image is a 'nice shot'. I recently gave it a 'rethink' in that, we are often like the sniper who has honed the timing, the stillness, the concentration, the patience for that ONE fraction of a second for getting the image you want. You do hold your breath, you do block out all distractions. And you wait, poised and ready. In this portrait that is exactly what I did. It was an opening for a friend, Gary Lloyd, and I was just a guest, but the passion is ever present to do what I believe I do very well and that is to record a moment with consummate attention and desire to please. This portrait was taken during a presentation/performance by Gary Lloyd that referenced earth and our need for change to preserve it for future generations. He filled the room with related sculptural pieces illustrating his message. As he spoke he passed behind this earth replica balloon strung from the ceiling, back and forth. Across the room, I waited for the perfect moment, again and again, when it would appear as if it were, in effect, his very head.
