The Portraits were created between October and November 2020, in the Corona Pandemic . I photographed 34 people, overall.
The idea: To visualize breathing, which was given a very special significance in this crisis ("I can't breathe", shortness of breath, ventilators, masks, etc.).
I used a bathtub filled with water. Each model was given tights pulled over their head.
In the first photo, the model rests with her eyes closed above the water.
In the second, the person goes under water and lets out bubbles of air from their mouth. Reminiscent of what is happening in our lungs.
In the third, a hole is cut into the tights, the model emerges a little out of the water and gasps for air.
While the first photo is reminiscent of a death mask, the second inevitably has associations with "waterboarding".
The third image, "gasping for air", evokes associations of relief and hope.
