This is a world touring exhibition organized by Amnesty International of my photos taken in Chile during the Pinochet years, to mark the 40th anniversary of the military coup on 11 September 2013
I covered the struggle against the Pinochet dictatorship in Chile during the 1980s for the international press.
Amnesty commissioned an exhibition of this work in 1988 to use for their campaign on human rights violations in that country. To commemorate the 40th anniversary of the coup, that took place on 11 September 1973, they are hosting an updated version of the original exhibition, at the organisation's Human Rights Centre in London, later touring their various bases around the world, and online.
It is a cruel irony of history that, since 9/11 2001, that date has been remembered by the terrible events in Manhattan, and that the other, previous atrocity has been consigned to forgetfulness.
Hence the title of the display: 'Chile's 9/11'
