The series portrays the uncertainty and helplessness which people experience when faced with the invisible threat of the COVID-19 virus. At the same time the “Silent Heroes” sequel also appears as a monument acknowledging people´s courage – especially those people who are exposed daily to the Coronavirus through their professions. It is them who serve us, the community and save so our innerpiece. They have been doing that for years but now we see. We see them as vulnerable as all of us but they continue to care and serve, dis-covering some of society’s backbones. The photographs illustrate the calm and strength of those depicted. Showing each person twice he offers a glimpse of the differences between wearing and not wearing a mask.
How does interaction work with half of the face covered? Is it only now that we look each other in the eye? They each stand for a kind of normal, that both keeps existing and yet has ceased to exist, because normality itself seems to shift. Does it?
