Popcorn (2016)

Every year the concentration of greenhouse gases responsible for global warming continues to grow. If the average global temperature rises to 2°C, it will lead to an ice-free Arctic and sea-level rise. The planet is already facing these powerful feedbacks, the climate change is moving the North Pole, melting ice sheets (Antarctica and Greenland); warming seas and rising oxidation, causing a quarter of the available in the ocean coral colonies to suffer from discoloration, bleaching. . . I used flowers and plants that are naturally first to pop blossom in my hometown Krasnodar, Russia and surrounding areas, the ones breaking through the cold grounds. Every year my flourishing region, Krasnodar Krai, which once was feeding the entire Russia, is dramatically changing. Right before our eyes, granary is turning into unsuitable plastic. Just like the scents and products disappear from the shelves, so do the beloved flowers from my mother's garden, and lilac that grows near the house no longer holds the aroma of childhood… "Popcorn" is both interaction of nature and human, as well as my time capsule in which I seal in not only a piece of home, but also memory.
