At first glance, these ordinary manufactured objects (wire, plastic filter and seal, netting, composite plank) I selected and staged on a found circular piece of ice are evocative of classic ready-mades and yet by just positioning them they seem much more like retinal art. However, with further study their interlocking relationship elevates them beyond eye candy, beyond visual indifference to a level of humorous irony. Using ready-mades often allows one to take a step back from one's usual approach, however, in this Series I feel my inner eye has controlled my conscious-self resulting in a balance poised or hovering in a Surrealistic aura of restraint. As the Series proceeded, I added and deleted ready-mades within the central area of the ice. This resulted in several related Series’ that shifted toward more suggestive themes. Then again, perhaps the continuously melting ice influenced my id (you know, running water and all that).
