Recuerdo infantil

Una tarde parda y fría de invierno. Los colegiales estudian. Monotonía de lluvia tras los cristales. Es la clase. En un cartel se representa a Caín fugitivo, y muerto Abel, junto a una mancha carmín. Con timbre sonoro y hueco truena el maestro, un anciano mal vestido, enjuto y seco, que lleva un libro en la mano. Y todo un coro infantil va cantando la lección: «mil veces ciento, cien mil; mil veces mil, un millón». Una tarde parda y fría de invierno. Los colegiales estudian. Monotonía de lluvia tras los cristales. - Antonio Machado - Some time ago I had the incredible opportunity to photograph children being children in one of their most natural environments, the school playgrounds. Maybe in no time, there will only be -authorized photo scenes- and no more record of the children´s school life. I remember going through my archive some years later and being very surprised when I realized some of the pictures felt like tableau paintings in the way they are arranged; timeless scenes like the ones Antonio Machado’s poem projects inside me. It brings the nostalgia of childhood and at the same time powerful symbols of a circular time, stagnant, without progression. I want to be in there, engaged and witnessing on their level. I would be lying if I said that Machado's poem was an inspiration while shooting, I am afraid I am not that intellectual, but those scenes brought up my school years again which Antonio Machado was a little part of.
