Pellestrina is a long and narrow island forming a barrier between the southern Venetian Lagoon and the Adriatic Sea, lying south west of the Lido. The main industries of the island are market gardening, fishing, tourism and lace making. It can be covered on foot or bike, from one end to the other, with a path of about 11 km. The island is very narrow; the distance between the side of the open sea and that of the lagoon is just a few tens of meters. It is thus possible to switch from the side of the lagoon to the side of the open sea walking a few tens of meters. The impression is that of moving between two different worlds of water.
