The old house

This photo story concerns the inhabitants living in the buildings of nineteenth-century former factory complex in the historic district of Łódz (POLAND). Once it was one of the most modern spinning plants in Europe. Run by the Scheibler Family, in addition to the jobs provided additional infrastructure: homes, nursery, hospital, theater, fire station, etc. In contrast to many of the buildings in the area, these at Tymienieckiego street are not refurbished. They are inhabited by the descendants of the former cotton mill workers and people who were granted council housing here. After the collapse of the textile industry, many people have been left to fend for themselves - neither they nor their children have coped. The gap between how they live, and the world "outiside of this street" is still increasing. Nothing has replaced the textile industry.
