I have travelled round the world on assignments for Non Governmental Organizations like War on Want, Save The Children, OXFAM, Christian Aid, CAFOD, VSO, UNICEF, the British Council and the European Union.I document their efforts to work together with local grassroots organizations in order to improve the living and working conditions of the underprivileged of this planet and supply images and text for their annual reports and campaigns as well as producing audiovisual material and touring displays for their educational departments. In terms of visual documentation, I have been at the pioneering edge of that movement, working with NGOs to help them to consider the impact of how they represent those issues.
I have thus turned the players around, getting farmers growing herbs for beauty products to pose as if they were models on a fashion shoot, rather than just humble workers, or getting organic honey makers to enjoy their delicious produce to camera, giving them the same right to test and take pleasure in the fruits of their labour as their clients.
I have tried, along with my colleagues in the field, to put the twin virtues of empowerment and dignity at the forefront of my coverage and treatment of the subjects I photograph, film and interview, thus helping to set a benchmark in the industry.
