As an artist and environmentalist, my work deals with issues around the effects humans have on our biosphere, and it on us. Though this work I attempt to highlight the importance trees offer us in urban environments. They confer a sense of place and assist in our psychological wellbeing. To convey those things through my photographic art, I visualise the Sydney landscape - or rather “tree-scape” - as it used to be and, using apps, superimpose it over the present cityscape - our homes - to produce colourful, composite images. They are complex and intended to intrigue in order to draw the audience in and start a conversation about how our relationship to nature and trees is shaped locally. I hope this encourages people to register the negative effects of unabated urban spread on our society, health and environment and encourages them to think about it in a more personal context.
