Cultural Freezone Landbouwbelang Maastricht
The large grain-transhipment Landbouwbelang (LBB) in Maatricht, the Netherlands was squatted in 2002. The place has developed over the years into a flywheel for experiment, talent development, sustainability and (youth) culture.
For over a decade, Maastricht is enriched by this cultural freezone and its colorful residents. It has become a well attended international venue, a place for exhibition, with studios, workshops, and a vegan-food place to eat. Also the Landhuis with repair cafe and pizza bakery, the design group Demotech and a bargain shop (Weggeefwinkel) must be seen!
While squatting is prohibited by law since 2010, the alternative lifestyle of the LBB is more relevant than ever. The pioneers saw especially the infinite possibilities offered by this colossal space. They created the conditions for creativity and experimentation. "On our own, with personal responsibility and sustainability we achieved a lot with little money. All the current government stands for, we already do for years'
