In Plain Site

My project originated from my despondency at the amount of litter discarded on the Yorkshire Three Peaks. Driven by the effect that countryside litter has on the environment, its people and its wildlife, I investigated the history and dissemination of the countryside code to the public through visual methods to question whether signs and information contributed to less countryside litter. In Plain Site focuses on Rufford Colliery Complex and Clipstone Forest, local to Sherwood Pines, Nottinghamshire. My fascination with illusion and optical viewers inspired me to view litter through a teleidoscope, fragmenting litter to reveal its different aspects. This floating rubbish records spaces and converts challenges associated with consumerism into a visual language, questioning assumptions about the site and representing social problems through metaphors.
