What and where are the Balkans? Are ‘Balkan’ and ‘post-Yugoslav’ as terms basically interchangeable? In practice and in reality, what do Balkan cities look like? So much has been said and theorized in the past two centuries about the Balkans, often mistakenly and unfairly associated with primitivism and war, while so rarely are they portrayed (apart from novels and films on the 1990s wars).
In this short series, I wanted to visually explore just some of the corners and details that make up three post-Yugoslav capital cities, i.e. Belgrade, Pristina, and Zagreb.
