Portals

The series Portals is an ongoing collection of mostly self portraits. Within these photographs, I seek to find an escape from my mind's reality. I have always struggled with anxiety and often dissociate to cope. By photographing myself, I experience being present while expressing my impulse to escape the moment. Shot on black and white film, I experiment with techniques such as long and multiple exposures to capture other worlds and traces or doubles of myself. I work with fire and other destructive substances, altering the negative forever to convey my perpetual state of dread and flirt with the fantasy of disappearing all together.
