Three years ago I suffered a breakdown and was hospitalised for over 10 weeks. During that time I found talking about my feelings and what had happened to me very tough. However I was encouraged to be creative and found I was able to express those feeling through art therapy. When I was discharged I wanted to continue my creative journey and to help me understand what I was truly feeling. So I and took up photography. I am an instinctive photographer. It's not that I don't try to construct a photograph, but I know when I try to it doesn't work as well. It works best for me when I see something and it feels right. I look to photograph everyday subjects in a new way, rather than continually looking for new subjects to photograph. The process of making a photograph is as important to me as the photograph itself, its a kind of therapy which really helps to keep me grounded.
