Trained as a professional dancer and choreographer, I started experimenting with dance on video. These experiments developed into what I call Doinas: performative video-miniatures. The pieces shown here are based on the third and last part of my Doina cycle EXILE. The word „exile“ to me not only denotes a physical distance from home but rather and foremost a separation from something essential, such as one´s own roots, family, a loved one, one´s life purpose etc.
For this photo-collage series, I took very small details from stills of the aforementioned Doinas, enlarged, distorted, and layered them and thus created a series of fragmented abstractions. In all of my work, be it video, photography, dance, performance or textile art, I delve into the uncertainties and blurriness of life, seeking connectedness in a fragmented world.
