After attending a wedding in Kolkata, I was so intrigued by the street life that I went back a few years later and spent two weeks shooting on the street. It's hard to be incognito when you're the only white person on the block carrying a big DSLR, so many of these photographs were taken with the participation of the subject, or in some cases, I was caught taking the photograph a second before pressing the shutter. Most people living in Kolkata don't speak English, so hand gestures were my only mode of communication with the people I photographed.
