I explore nature areas and nearby places – mainly in Texas – at night and its border zones with light painting photography. I call that meta-series (composed of subseries) “Vibrant Night” both for its surreal colors and because I sometimes (inspired by Gaian analogies) imagine animism in things.
Here, I extend “The ‘Nature’ of Bridges,” an adjunct series to “Vibrant Night,” to suggest animism by adding symbolic photomontage/compositing* to certain images. This (and the titles) give viewers context to reframe other bridges here as also animistic.
I composed/envisioned visual metaphors for personality traits – and even an inner diversity within a person (eg., as a bridge “dominating” a flower within can suggest one’s Jungian “persona” mask vs its inner, opposite “shadow self.” Alternately, Nietzsche’s Apollonian (restraint) vs. Dionysian (ecstasy) analyses of human nature, etc. Or suppressed gender identity – including an image of its dramatic reversal! I hope viewers will discuss their own interpretations of this and my other metaphoric depictions of personality.
*Note: I don’t do this in my pareidolic subseries of “Vibrant Night.”
