In early history, women often appeared nude in various forms of art. The value of female artists is often questioned and depreciated in the patriarchal society. Art comes from life, divorced from art, back to real life, all behaviors constantly remind us that women have been living in the gaze of men.
I gain enlightenment from Guerrilla Girls' poster slogan: 'Do women have to be naked to get into the Met. Museum', and pay homage to Betty Tompkin's work by writting on characters. The words not only refer to manslaining, but also present the status of women under male gaze.
I chose four western paintings in which only women are naked, inverting the gender of men and women, not only for reverse male-gaze but also for taunting. On the other side of the camera, women are also watching them.
Palace not only refer to the imperial palace but also indicates the finest places of art like art galleries and museums. I rearranged the scene of the image in Chinese style is to relay an old Chinese saying, "A woman should not enter the main hall," to play with the male gaze in real life.
