This series was inspired by an old Victorian dollhouse I acquired in a second hand store and by a box of hand made doll clothes made for me by my grandmother when I was a little girl. The characters in the images are "wearing" those beautiful doll clothes and inhabit the rooms of the dollhouse.
The series illustrates a quest for personal and spiritual maturity. The characters find themselves in rooms a little too small for their potential, and in each case are finding their way out. They evolve, and their challenges move from overcoming physical and cultural constraints to grappling with intellectual and metaphysical questions.
I created this series during the global Covid19 pandemic, when I think we were all feeling a little constrained! I was able to produce the images in my tiny home studio, photographing objects I had nearby or had photographed in the past, and using my wonderful next door neighbors as models.
