Everyone has a story, not everyone shares it.
I live in a small farming community north of San Francisco and recently began taking portraits in my community using a seamless and natural light. When I find someone I am interested in they are always surprised I want to photograph them and hear their story. Their story can be as simple as 'I work the soil so I can grow vegetables to feed our community' or as deep as sharing mental health issues they are experiencing.
The act of taking the time to get to know someone, hear their story, and create a portrait of that person helps them be seen and not feel invisible in our world. The act helps me get to know more everyday people and make lasting connections.
