Dreaming of June

For this body of work, I have photographed subjects close at hand as I never tire of studying what is within my reach. I’m looking for something that exists without being entirely visible in the thing itself that I’m looking at; something like looking at an empty chair and seeing my father in it, or my mother’s starvation during the war- altering the way I look at a potato. I’m following something small that I don’t want to put a word to. By small I don’t mean insubstantial, just not on a grand display, mattering, even if only momentarily and/or cumulatively. Ideas having to do with daily work, time passing and putting love and care into one's life are themes that keep recurring in my work. The title Dreaming of June refers to my mother's best friend June, who read poetry to my mother in the last days her life, while my mother was more or less in a dream state.
