Street photography is inherently based on presenting the ordinary environment in new ways. My 50-year photographic project has been centered on capturing and transforming the ordinary and ephemeral to create art. This has led me to pursue a variety of subjects, but as an urban photographer, a great portion of my work is street photography.
In all my work I want to truly see what we don't look at. These selected street photographs are characteristic of my lifelong photographic effort to create art from the overlooked, unnoticed and vanishing environment. Inanimate objects – buildings, barricades, billboards, the street itself – are typically the focus and dominant features in my street photos. These “found” objects provide the subjects, organizing forms and sometimes, the irony in the images.
People appear frequently as well, and while not usually the focus of the image, they are still integral to the composition. This may reflect the anonymity of urban life, but as they pass in front of the lens, they also remind the viewer of the constant change and movement inherent in the view of the street.
Thank you for considering my submission. I look forward to the LensCulture review of this work. I hope these nine photographs communicate the beauty I see in the moments they capture.
