This photo series, set in the town of Bajram Curri in northern Albania, focuses on the buildings that stand as silent witnesses to the city's story. The architectural landscape of old and derelict houses, reveals the town’s turbulent past of high unemployment rates, poverty and mass emigration. Meanwhile, the new and partly renovated flats symbolise a fresh start for Bajram Curri. These modern structures reflect the town's aspirations for rejuvenation and progress.
The juxtaposition of the old and the new in these photographs highlights the dynamic tension between preservation and development, a theme central to the narrative of many towns emerging from periods of stagnation or decline.
Through this series, I aim to capture the essence of Bajram Curri's architectural dialogue, where the past and the present coexist, sometimes in harmony, sometimes in conflict. These images are not just pictures of buildings; they are portraits of a community in transition, striving to honor its history while embracing the promise of the future. By exploring these visual narratives, viewers are invited to reflect on the broader themes of memory, identity, and transformation that define Bajram Curri's unique character.
