Jung named the masculine side of a female psyche the Animus . Often the animus shows up in a woman’s dreams as a group of men working as one. The four stages of the animus’ development are the natural man, the romantic man, the man of words, and the balancing partner. If a woman does not work on her inner animus they become one man. For this project, four men represent aspects of the animus of a woman. They work as one a lot of time but since they are not developed, they sometimes conflict with each other. The protagonist of this piece is named Jennifer, a woman who is going about her duties as a housewife in the 1950s. She has a younger doppelganger who is just starting to become aware of her inner masculine. Jung taught that an animus that is ignored or not integrated into consciousness will want attention and be ever-present in psychic life.
