Rossbeigh Strand

In ancient Irish mythology, Rossbeigh Strand on the Ring of Kerry is a magical liminal place. From here the lovers Oisin and Niamh set off on a white horse for Tír na n'Óg - the land of eternal youth where nobody ages or gets ill. Rossbeigh translates as 'Headland of The Birch Trees'. The Strand is also notable for the wooden skeleton of the shipwrecked Sunbeam, which ran aground in 1903.
