Between the Eyes

Moving from Korea to Germany has deeply influenced both my life and my work. Living between two cultures is like being in one place while experiencing two different times. The constant crossing of balance and instability, harmony and conflict, became a central experience in my body—and naturally, in my practice. In different cultures, the same event can be understood in different ways, and sometimes completely different things can share similar meanings. Understanding these differences is like seeing with two eyes or hearing with two ears—each provides slightly different information, but the body connects it all, creating depth. There’s no need to choose just one. My work reflects how two perspectives or systems meet, misalign, and how relationship and meaning are formed in that space between. We may never fully understand one another. But that is not failure—it is the structure of how we relate. I explore everyday objects and people around me to trace moments when connections form. These moments often carry a sense of instability or ambiguity. And repeated pairs of images are sometimes nearly identical, but at other times entirely different. What holds things together? What pushes them apart? The work invites these questions. My practice does not aim to resolve difference, but to hold it. Meaning arises in that space in-between—not as something fixed, but as an ongoing process of relation between systems. I believe this reflects how we try to understand each other.
