Kind of Blue

Born in Spain and having lived in numerous places, the endeavour to find a sense of belonging and connection has often eluded me. Photography is a way for me to connect with Melbourne, the city where I now live. Kind of Blue also comes from a certain yearning to create something that is personal and mine. It is a way to remind myself to appreciate the simple pleasures life gives you and the beauty you can find in the mundane. There is a certain feeling of nostalgia in my heart, reminiscent of a bygone era. Melbourne’s trams serve as a persistent reminder of this nostalgia, further fuelling my passion for capturing the essence of this city. Melbourne epitomises a melting pot of globalisation. As a traveller, I am constantly coming and going, trying to find my place within this world. The trams, with their various stops and routes, serve as a metaphor for my life’s journey and perhaps the viewer may relate to it. As I photographed commuters through tram windows, I often recognised my own experience in theirs. Moments of contemplation, solitude and longing became reflections of a shared search for belonging. This photography project symbolises my own exploration and attempts to carve out my own path within this bustling world. By portraying commuters as detached observers behind the tram’s glass, I explore the ways in which our individual journeys often reveal experiences and emotions that are universally shared.
