MOMENT/UM – the heart hankers for the horizon
Our world is fixed and firm. We walk on solid ground. We look around us and what we see is clear. A click of the shutter and the moment is frozen into an image, secured in sharpness.
Our world is fluid and fickle. A dance of particles trembling in emptiness. A swirl of stars and planets in a universe unknowable. A blinking eye, a swaying train, and the shivering image fades.
Moment collides with movement. Speed shatters sharpness. Focus flees to the far distance. What is near, escapes us. Enigma encloses us.
I was born severely cross-eyed and my sight was never untroubled. Often I'm not sure what I'm hearing either. For every bit of information my senses bring me I can think of a zillion alternative interpretations. And actually I think that's our natural state of being. Certainty and clarity are constructions, vagueness and ambiguity our essential condition - which is reflected in these images.
