Cambodia, a river runs through it

This is a visual diary of my journey through the waterways of Cambodia. From Battambang to Siem Reap, through the Sangkae river route to Tonlé Sap lake and Tonle Sap river, the journey per se was one of the most rewarding parts of my time in Cambodia. Rabbit island in the south of the country was my last stop. Fishermen in Rabbit island now earn a living by taking tourists to the island from the mainland rather than fishing. Tonle Sap is world’s most varied and productive ecosystems the region has always been of central importance for Cambodia's food provision . It proved capable to maintain the Angkorean civilization , the largest pre-industrial settlement complex in world history. Either directly or indirectly it affects the livelihood of large numbers of a predominantly rural population to this day. From fishing to the tourist industry, water continues to provide cambodians with a livelihood to support themselves in the twenty-first century.
